How’s It Going?

Well, they’ve had 2 full days and I noticed some very tired kids as they left today.  I know they are getting the system down and they seem much more comfortable than they did on Monday.  Remember to keep me in the know if you are hearing anything at home.  Teachers are establishing routines and getting to know the students this week.  I know I won’t be sending any homework this week.

I would like for the kids to make a treat this Friday.  The ingredient list is below.  I have not been told of any food allergies for these ingredients.  We do have a dairy allergy so I will be using margarine and not real butter.  Not a super nutritious snack but a treat indeed.  I will be sending this home with a permission slip so that I know everyone will be okay.

I am having a great time and we have a terrific team to work with your children!

I’ll keep in touch!

3 cups each corn, rice, and wheat cereal
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Welcome to Baker Prairie Middle School Supported Learning Center

I can’t believe the first day of school is finally here!  I am excited and nervous and everything else the students are feeling.  I have enjoyed meeting many of you already and I look forward to our have a close community.  I am so please with the room we have been given.  Although I couldn’t set up the cozy corner I had talked about with many of you, I have managed to have a cozy feeling in the room.

Our Instructional assistants are fabulous!  We have terrific support for our students.  In addition, Lori Craig, who is the functional language arts teacher, will be supporting the students in their general education classes.  The teachers for these classes have been terrific to work with.  We have already discussed ways to make the classes more accessible.  Lori and I will keep families in the know about how this is working out.  Everyone has been so accommodating and excited to work with our students!

I will be sending out information and a syllabus this first week of school.  The students will have planners and I encourage you to look over these nightly with your student.  We may try incorporating this into a communication practice for IEP goals.  We will also have a Back to School night on September 17th.  We will have finished a couple of projects for the students to share that night so please put this on your calendar now.

I’ll blog as often as I can.  Have the kids get a good night’s sleep tonight and we will be waiting for them bright and early tomorrow morning.
