How Cold is the water around Antarctica?

First graders in Room 19 got to experiment with water temperatures today. They used water and ice to create the temperatures of the Pacific ocean in February (50 degrees) and the water temperature of the water surrounding Antarctica in February (30 degrees). They decided that they wouldn’t swim in either ocean right now because both were awfully cold. The 30 degree water was also full of ice but the perfect temperature for penguins. Our math and science theme right now is penguins.
